How to Spot and Handle Suspicious Activity on Encore
We take the safety of our community seriously — and that starts with making sure you know what to watch for. While Encore works hard to prevent scams, some bad actors may still try to sneak through. Here's how to protect yourself and your account.
🚩 What to Look For
Watch out for these red flags:
-
Requests for Off-Platform Transactions
If someone asks you to chat or pay outside of Encore (like through PayPal, Venmo, text, etc.), that’s a no-go. -
Requests for Personal Information (Critical)
Never give out your phone number, email address, or shipping details through chat. If they’re asking — they’re likely up to something. -
Unsolicited Requests for Item Photos
If a buyer wants more photos outside the platform, they may be trying to use your content for scams or fake listings. -
Impersonation of Encore Staff
Scammers might pretend to be Encore reps via email, text, or even in-app messages. Don’t fall for it — Encore will never ask for sensitive info this way.
🔒 How to Handle Suspicious Activity
-
Keep Everything on Encore
All messages and payments should stay on the platform. This protects both you and your buyers. -
Verify Official Messages
Encore will only email you from addresses ending in @buyencore.com. We’ll never ask for payment info or account details via DMs or text. -
Don’t Share Personal Info
That includes phone numbers, email, or payment details. Keep it all private. -
Save the Evidence
Take screenshots of suspicious conversations — just in case you need to share them with Support. -
Reach Out to Support
If something feels off, email us at support@buyencore.com so we can take a look.
🧠 Common Scam Tactics to Avoid
Here are a few things scammers might try:
-
Off-platform payment requests
“Can I Venmo you instead?” 🚩 That’s a red flag. -
Fake payment confirmations
Scammers may send fake screenshots to make it look like they paid. -
Shipping address changes
“Can you ship to a different address?” — It's the Buyers responsibility to update this. Reach out to Support should you need to update an address. -
Impersonating Encore
If someone pretending to be Encore asks for info through another user account — it’s a scam. -
Relationship scams
If someone tries to build a “connection” before asking for money or details — it’s not personal, it’s a tactic. -
Requesting extra item photos
This could be used to recreate your listing somewhere else. Always be cautious. We're a video based listing platform, they can clearly see the item in the video.
✅ General Safety Tips
-
Use Encore’s built-in payment system
It’s the only way to ensure protection. -

If it feels off, it probably is. Take a minute, then report it.
