At the time of winning an auction, Encore charges the winner's payment method the winning bid, shipping cost, and 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing fee.
If the buyer's payment method fails for any reason (incorrectly entered, declined, expired etc.), the buyer has 48 hours to update the payment method successfully and to avoid the cancellation of their order. The buyer is unable to see anything except this pop-up asking them to update their payment method during the 48 hour period. This strictness is to ensure the integrity of auctions on Encore!
As long as the payment method is updated within 48 hours, no action is taken against the buyer's account. If the buyer fails to update their payment method within 48 hours, the order is canceled. The first time this happens, no strikes are added to the buyer's account.
However, the second time this happens within a 30-day period, the buyer faces a 7-day suspension.
If this happens more than two times in a 30-day period, the buyer faces much longer suspensions or a permanent ban on their account. This is to maintain the integrity of auctions on Encore.
